couch potato

It’s been almost 48 hours since I’ve eaten, unless you count broth as food.  I do not.  I have never had such a rotten, tenacious sore throat in my life.  I’m starving, so right now I’ve got some red chard boiling, and maybe if I can get that down I’ll try some scrambled eggs.  The antibiotics seem to have kept the ear infection away, but aren’t helping my throat.  I feel like some funky science experiment.  It’s fascinating, really.

Anyone ever have a sore throat for ten + days?  The kind where swallowing makes you teary?  Any diagnosis or suggestions welcome.  Going to go try and eat now.

I am going to assume you have been tested for strep since that is the obvious thing.

Maybe you need a different antibiotic.

I am so sorry. I have had a bad sore throat for only half of a day and I want to cry and let the spit dribble out of my mouth rather than swallow.
    Feel better soon.

I used to get strep throat all the time, not so much in the last ten years, but I can remember the pain like it was yesterday. I agree that if you still have the sore throat that you need to go back to the doctor and try to get a different antibiotic. Ask for some codine to help you through the period before the new antibiotic kicks in. Being in pain sucks. As for eating, maybe some ensure or other meal replacement liquid might give you some calories. Good luck, I hope you get better soon.

Chris – the strep test was negative, so I am assuming that the lab messed up. Because this is silly.

I’m thinking that it’s something viral, which would explain why the antibiotic isn’t working. But, if I can get through to my doctor (I am uninsured and have to go through the county hospital, which is severely overburdened. I was lucky to get the medicine I did, honestly) I will see if she thinks something else might work.

Ali — You are right, it is a goodie. I’ve tried honey + apple cider vinegar, too, and neither have helped much.

Marsha — I ate yesterday, and had a banana this morning, so I think I must be improving, even though by the way it hurts I wouldn’t say I am.

Thanks, everyone. Hopefully I will be well fast and have more interesting things to write about!
