If it makes you feel any better, my little sister used my mom’s antique upright grand piano as a scratch pad. With a dry pen. She signed MY name, of course.
I like to think they are just overcome by creativity “in the moment”..lol

(they are on loft beds..appearently the white ceiling was just too boring..once one decided on decorating my youngest followed suit.) Its their room , their ceiling, I dont have the heart to wash it off..)
